10% for the Tongass
Tongass wild rainforest Salmon
Our “Tongass Wild” products celebrate the abundance of our rainforest home with 10% of profits donated to salmon conservation
Home to fishing communities since time immemorial, the streams and forests now managed as the Tongass National Forest are a globally unique salmon sanctuary. We recognize that the wild coho that power our business are dependent on the longterm health of our rivers and rainforest in Southeast Alaska. That’s why we put a lot of time & money into salmon advocacy in Alaska.
By establishing “Tongass Wild” salmon products we hope to establish a values-driven market for these fish that better defines sustainable seafood while raising money for salmon preservation. Our goal is to inspire more fishermen to give back to this place that feeds us, while connecting our customers to cultural and ecological conservation efforts in our region.
10% for the Tongass takes a stand
Our very first 10% for the Tongass recipient is the art, science, and adventure-centered Last Stands project. Our friend Elsa is headed back into the field again this year to ground truth and document the old growth wild salmon habitat threatened by clearcut logging and export from Southeast Alaska's biological gem - Prince of Wales Island. Elsa, who grew up trolling for wild Southeast Alaskan salmon, tells the story of “the last stands” of her childhood home via writing, images, and film.
Fish donations for nonprofits
To get a fish donation, we ask you to create a buying club with your network or membership. If you can sell 100 lbs worth of fish we will ship extra fish for your event for free. We've found that this is a win-win. We get new customers, customers buy fish in support of their fave nonprofit, and the nonprofit gets free fish for their event.
